Part of this program is the reintroduction of fire, which is a critical component of range land health. To reintroduce fire through controlled burns, the provisions of the Endangered Species Act requires a survey and relocation of the Pima Pineapple Cactus. A swimmers paradise in the summer months, this wilderness sees far fewer visitors in the winter months, which makes it a great time for AWC and volunteers to collect some data on recreation sites and the presence of non-native Tamarisk in the riparian area.  | | | Tuzigoot National Monument - Marsh Access Road Stabilization - Cottonwood |  | | Last October, VOAz introduced run-downs and head-cut plugs to stabilize the access trail/service road on the south side of Tavasci Marsh. A significant wash crosses the access road at the lower end of the new drain armoring. We will harden spillway below cross to insure long-term stability of the crossing. We’ll work in teams at both historic beaver sites slated for possible reintroduction of beaver, and sites currently used by beaver, to assess the condition of cottonwood, aspen, and willow.
