Protecting Young Aspen in Northern Arizona - Construction of an aspen exclosure - Navajo Spring, west of Mormon Lake Lodge
To allow young aspen to thrive, the Forest Service builds fences around aspen groves to keep out elk, deer and livestock. We will be building a new exclosure at a site west of the Mormon Lake Lodge near the two that we built in June and October, 2011. Meet at 8:30 AM at the junction of FR 90 (Mormon Lake Road) and FR 219. Contact Dave Downes (928-522-9207) if you have questions or need directions. Lunch will be provided.

IDA Grassland Restoration Project Unit 7W - Wildlife Haibtat Work Project Nothern AZ - North of Parks, Arizona, South of HWY 180
An important part of wildlife habitat is connectivity of migration corridors. Throughout years of encroachment from juniper and jack pines grasslands have disappeared. The Arizona Elk Society spends a few days a year clearing over 200 acres to restore those grasslands. This project consists of lopping and scattering the encroaching juniper. This project benefits elk, antelope and grassland species of birds.
