Buffelgrass Eradication-Phoenix Mountain Preserves - Beat Back Buffelgrass at Piestewa - Piestewa Peak
We will be trying to eradicate buffelgrass on the mountain across from the Piestewa Peak trailhead. The Phoenix Weedwackers have worked this area for the last few summers. We will be in the shade the first two hours, but it is a small hike uphill to reach the buffelgrass.
| |
Buffelgrass is an invasive savannah grass that given time and no eradication, will take over our Phoenix mountains. The Phoenix Weedwackers meet once a month to try and clear the Phoenix Mountain Preserves of buffelgrass and fountaingrass. We meet in different parts of the preserves and find the biggest patch of buffel we can find! We wil be in the shade for part of this time but It is hot hot hot so please bring water!
Drive into the park on Squaw Peak Road and immediately on the left will be a No parking area for trash barrels. This is where we park. Please bring enough water and a snack and dress appropriately for the hot and humid morning. |
